Weekend Trips

On the first weekend of our three-week internship mobility in Romania, we set out to explore historical sites near where we were staying. Our first stop was the Muzeul ‘Popa,’ an ethnographic museum in the Târpești area of Neamț, founded by Nicolae Popa in 1964. The museum displays items, clothing, and tools from Popa’s time, as well as his own works, including sculptures and human face masks. The surroundings of the museum were just as beautiful as the museum itself, located in a lush, green landscape. Additionally, the museum had a visitor’s book, and before we left, we wrote about ourselves and our project in it.

After Muzeul Popa, our next stop was the historic Agapia Monastery, located in Târgu Neamț, Romania. The peaceful atmosphere of the monastery, surrounded by greenery and filled with vibrant flowers, was truly mesmerizing. At this still-active monastery, we had the opportunity to witness a graduation ceremony for recent graduates, which added a special touch to our visit.

Our final stop was Neamț Fortress, a site that has hosted many civilizations over the centuries, including Moldavians and Romanians. The fortress has endured numerous sieges, including those by the Poles under King Sobieski, the Turks led by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, as well as the Austrians and Hungarians. It was burned and rendered unusable several times but was restored in the early 2000s to its present state. Today, the fortress stands in all its grandeur, impressing visitors with its majestic appearance.

We had a lot of fun throughout our trip, visiting historical sites and learning new information. This weekend excursion was a great experience, and we have more activities and trips planned in the coming days. Thanks you for reading. Be regards.
